How to turn maths practice into a fun storybook your child wants to read

By Grandma Jayshree

Child development specialist & teacher

Step 1 - Begin by choosing your little one's name and age

First, head over to the storybook creation page. The very first step is to tell the system your child's name and age. This is where the magic begins, my dears! Imagine your little Arjun or Meera hearing their own name as the brave protagonist embarking on a quest. This immediate connection makes the story feel like it was written just for them. Why this matters: A story with 'Arjun' as the hero instantly grabs his attention and makes him feel special.

💡 Grandma's tip: Think about a favourite pet or a beloved family member you might want to include later, too!

Step 2 - Weave in the specific maths concept you want to practice

Now, this is where we get clever! In the story prompt, clearly state the maths concept. For example, 'Saanvi needs to collect 12 mangoes but only finds 5. How many more does she need?' or 'Rohan has 3 laddoos and his Nani gives him 4 more. How many laddoos does Rohan have now?' Be simple and direct. The builder will then naturally incorporate this problem into the story's plot. Why this matters: This subtly embeds learning into the narrative, making it less intimidating than a textbook problem.

Step 3 - Craft a whimsical plot around the numbers

Don't just give the maths problem; give it a fun context! For instance, 'Saanvi is helping her Aaji prepare for Diwali by counting sweets,' or 'Rohan is on a treasure hunt in his village, and each clue involves adding numbers.' The more imaginative and relatable the scenario, the more your child will be drawn in. Think of simple adventures: a trip to the market, a visit to a grandparent's farm, or a festive celebration. Why this matters: A compelling story distracts from the 'work' of maths, turning it into a fun game.

Step 4 - Generate and polish the story to perfection

Once you've given your instructions, the builder will create a wonderful draft for you. Take a moment to read through it. Does it flow well? Does the maths problem make sense within the story? You can tweak it, perhaps adding more colourful descriptions of an Indian festival or incorporating a favourite character. This is your chance to make it truly unique to your family's flavour. Why this matters: Ensuring the story feels authentic to your family makes it even more engaging for your child.

Step 5 - Bring the story to life with a familiar voice or language

To make the experience truly magical, consider using the voice cloning feature to narrate the story in your own voice, or perhaps your Aaji's or Dada's voice! Imagine the comfort and joy your little one will feel hearing a beloved voice telling them a story with them as the hero. For our NRI families, you can even generate these stories in 16 different languages, keeping your child rooted in their mother tongue even far from home. This personal touch is priceless! Why this matters: Hearing a beloved voice or familiar language makes the story a comforting and intimate experience, perfect for bedtime learning.

Step 6 - Snuggle up and watch the maths magic unfold

Finally, find a quiet, comfy spot and read the story together. Don't rush through the maths part; pause, let your child think, and celebrate every correct answer. Make it a shared moment of discovery and joy. This isn't just about solving a problem; it's about building a positive relationship with numbers, one delightful story at a time. Why this matters: Shared reading time builds connection and makes learning a joyful family ritual, fostering a love for maths.
