How to turn maths practice into a fun storybook your child wants to read

By Grandma Jayshree

Step 1 - Visit the Story Creator and Begin

First things first, open your web browser and navigate to the Build Your Book story creator page. It's like stepping into a magical workshop where stories are waiting to be spun! You'll see a simple, inviting interface ready for your input.

This is where your journey to making maths fun for your child truly begins.

Step 2 - Enter Your Child's Details

On the page, you'll be prompted to enter your child's name, age, and gender. For instance, if your little one is an 8-year-old boy named Rahul, type 'Rahul' and select '8' and 'Boy'. You can even upload a picture of them if you like, to make the character truly theirs.

By making your child the main character, the story instantly becomes more relatable and engaging for them.

Step 3 - Craft a Maths-Themed Prompt

Now, for the exciting part! In the text box, describe the maths concept you want to teach and how your child (as the hero) interacts with it. For example, you could write: 'Rahul helps a group of jungle animals count how many bananas they need for a picnic. They have 3 monkeys, 4 parrots, and 2 elephants. Each needs a different number of bananas. Rahul has to use addition to figure out the total.'

A clear and creative prompt is the key to generating a story that weaves in the maths lesson seamlessly.

Step 4 - Choose Language and Genre

Before generating, select your preferred language. Perhaps you want Rahul's story in Hindi or Gujarati to connect with his mother tongue? Then, pick 'Educational' as the genre to ensure the story stays on topic. You can also experiment with 'Adventure' or 'Fantasy' if you want a more fantastical maths journey.

Selecting the right language helps your child connect with the story on a deeper cultural level, and the genre ensures the narrative tone fits the learning goal.

Step 5 - Generate and Review Your Story

Once your prompt is ready and settings are chosen, click 'Generate Story'. In moments, a beautifully illustrated story featuring Rahul and his banana-counting adventure will appear! Read through it together. Does it make sense? Does it effectively convey the maths concept? You can always tweak your prompt and generate again if needed.

Reviewing helps you ensure the story is perfectly tailored to your child's learning style and makes the maths concept clear.

Step 6 - Save and Enjoy Your Educational Tale

Once you're happy with the story, simply save it to your library. You can revisit it anytime, print it out, or even share it with grandparents. Imagine the joy of watching your child eagerly read a story where they are the hero, solving maths problems right alongside their animal friends!

Having a readily available, engaging story makes learning a consistent and enjoyable part of your child's routine.
