How to Turn Maths Practice into a Fun Storybook Your Child Wants to Read

By Grandma Jayshree

Child development specialist & teacher

Step 1 - Head to Build Your Book's Creation Page

First things first, open your browser and gently navigate to our special creation page at buildyourbook.in/create. Think of this as the magical portal where your child's unique maths adventure begins. It’s a simple, welcoming space, designed for parents like you who want to spark joy in learning without any fuss.

Why this matters: This is where you begin to craft a world just for your child, free from the pressure of traditional textbooks.

Step 2 - Introduce Your Little Mathematician

On the creation page, you'll see fields asking for your child's name, age, and gender. Imagine you're introducing the hero of your story! For instance, if your son Arjun is 6, simply type 'Arjun' and select his age. This small step is truly powerful.

Why this matters: Personalisation instantly captivates your child, making the story about them and their direct involvement in the learning.

Step 3 - Craft a Maths Adventure Prompt

Now for the fun part! In the story prompt box, describe the maths concept you want to teach, woven into a simple narrative. Be creative! For a 4-year-old, you might write: "Arjun needs to count 10 colourful laddus for Diwali, but some are missing! Can he find them and count how many he has left?" For an 8-year-old, perhaps: "Meera is helping her Grandma pack Gulab Jamuns into boxes of 6. If they have 24 Gulab Jamuns, how many boxes do they need?" You can even ask the story to be set during Holi or Onam!

Why this matters: A creative prompt transforms abstract numbers into a tangible, fun experience, connecting maths to their world.

💡 Grandma's tip: Think about what excites your child – maybe it’s superheroes, animals, or helping around the house. Weave that into the maths problem!

Step 4 - Choose the Language and Voice for the Story

Next, select the language for your story. You can choose English, or even their beautiful mother tongue like Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, or Bengali. My dears living abroad often tell me how wonderful it is to keep their children rooted in their mother tongue this way! You can also select a voice for narration if you plan to listen rather than read aloud.

Why this matters: Learning in their familiar language strengthens comprehension and cultural roots, making the maths concept even clearer.

Step 5 - Generate and Review Your Maths Tale

With your details and prompt in place, simply click the 'Generate Story' button. In moments, our clever system will craft a unique story just for Arjun or Meera! Take a moment to read through it yourself. Does it flow well? Is the maths concept clear? If you'd like a little tweak, you can often regenerate with a slightly different prompt to get it just right.

Why this matters: A quick review ensures the story is perfectly tailored to your child's learning stage and interests.

Step 6 - Share the Joy (and the Learning!)

Once you're happy, it's time to share the story with your little one! Snuggle up together, read it aloud, and let them immerse themselves in the adventure. Point out the maths challenges as they come up. "Oh, look, Arjun needs to count the rest of the laddus! How many do you think he has now?" The magic lies in making it a shared, joyful experience.

Why this matters: Sharing the story strengthens your bond, makes learning a cherished memory, and reinforces the maths in a playful way.
