How to turn maths practice into a fun storybook your child wants to read

By Grandma Jayshree

Child development specialist & teacher

Step 1 — Go to the Storybook Creator Page and Set Up

First, open your browser and gently make your way to the Build Your Book creator page at /create. This is where the magic begins! You'll be prompted to enter your little one's name, age, and choose the language for the story. You can even choose to generate it in your mother tongue like Hindi or Tamil!

This first step ensures the story is truly 'theirs,' making them the star of the show.

💡 Grandma's tip: If you have a joint family, you can even add a grandparent's name as a supporting character!

Step 2 — Pick a Fun Theme and Main Character

Next, you'll need to give the story a setting and a central character, perhaps based on your child's interests. Does your little Arjun love space? Or maybe your Meera dreams of being a chef? In the prompt box, you can write something like: 'Saanvi, a brave little girl, on an adventure to find hidden treasures' or 'Rohan, a budding cricketer, preparing for a big match.'

A captivating backdrop makes the learning irresistible, drawing your child in from the very first word.

Step 3 — Weave in Specific Math Concepts

Now for the clever part! This is where you introduce the maths. In the same prompt box, clearly state the maths problems you want to include, making them part of the narrative. For example, you might write: 'On her treasure hunt, Saanvi finds a chest with 5 gold coins and then 7 more. She needs to count them all (addition up to 20).' Or, 'Rohan has 12 cricket balls and needs to divide them equally among 3 friends. How many does each friend get (simple division)?'

This is where you transform abstract numbers into a playful, meaningful quest.

Step 4 — Infuse Indian Flavours and Fun

To make the story even more relatable, add elements from our beautiful Indian culture. Imagine Saanvi counting laddoos during Diwali or Rohan sharing pakoras with his friends. You could specify: 'Make sure the story includes a scene at a bustling local market' or 'Weave in details about Holi colours or an Onam feast.'

Familiar settings and cultural references deepen engagement and make the learning feel natural and close to home.

Step 5 — Generate and Refine Your Storybook

Once you've poured your heart and these wonderful details into the prompt box, simply click the 'Generate Story' button. In moments, you'll have a beautifully crafted storybook! Read through it to ensure the maths problems are clear and well-integrated. If something isn't quite right, you can always go back and tweak your prompt for an even better result.

This step brings your vision to life, ensuring the story is just right for your little one.

Step 6 — Read, Listen, and Learn Together

The best part is sharing the story! Sit down with your child, read the book aloud, and gently point out the maths challenges as they appear. Make it an interactive experience. You can even use the voice cloning feature to have the story narrated in your own voice, or Dadi's!
