How to Make Maths Fun with a Personalized Storybook

By Grandma Jayshree

Child development specialist & teacher

Step 1 — Visit the Build Your Book Creation Page

My dears, the first step is always the easiest! Simply open your web browser and navigate to the Build Your Book platform's story creation section. Think of it as opening a magical portal to a world where stories come alive. You'll find a clear, welcoming space ready for your imagination, without any complicated menus. This is where our journey begins, making learning feel less like a chore and more like an adventure.

Step 2 — Introduce Your Little Hero

Next, you'll be asked for your child's name and age. This is the heart of what makes these stories so special! Imagine Meera solving a riddle, or Rohan counting stars – it becomes their story, their challenge. You can even choose their appearance to make the hero truly theirs. If you're eager to start this magic, you can begin creating your personalized storybook right away. When children see themselves in a story, their engagement skyrockets, especially with tricky subjects like maths.

💡 Grandma's tip: Remember how Arjun would listen intently when I told him stories where he was the main character? The same magic works here!

Step 3 — Choose an Educational Theme and Category

Now, this is where we start weaving in the maths! Select a category like "Educational" or even "Kids" if you want a broader adventure. Think about a simple maths concept you want to practice – maybe counting objects for your 3-year-old, or basic addition for a 6-year-old. For example, if you want to teach sharing, choose a 'Moral Story' theme. Choosing the right theme helps the story align perfectly with your child's learning stage.

Step 4 — Weave Maths into a Fun Story Prompt

This is the most creative part! Instead of saying "2 + 3 =", describe it as an adventure. For instance, "Saanvi needs to collect 5 marigolds for Diwali puja and 3 more for her neighbour Aunty. How many marigolds does she need in total?" Or, "Vikram found 7 colorful kites during Makar Sankranti, but 2 flew away. How many kites are left?" Framing maths as a narrative problem makes it relatable and much less intimidating.

Step 5 — Select Your Child's Preferred Language

Build Your Book offers stories in many languages – Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, English, and more! Choose the one that resonates most with your little one. For NRI families especially, this can be a beautiful way to connect them to their roots and mother tongue, even while learning maths. Learning in a familiar language strengthens comprehension and emotional connection to the subject.

Step 6 — Review and Adjust Your Story

Once the story is generated, take a moment to read through it. Does the maths problem make sense? Is the story engaging? You can often make small edits to ensure it flows perfectly or to adjust the difficulty of the maths challenge. Sometimes, I'd tell a story and see a child's eyes glaze over – that's when I knew it needed a little tweak! A well-tuned story ensures maximum engagement and learning.

Step 7 — Generate and Enjoy Your Math Adventure!

With everything set, simply click "Generate" and watch as your personalized maths adventure comes to life! You'll have a beautifully illustrated storybook where your child is the hero, solving maths problems as part of their exciting journey. You can read it together, or even use the Audio Book mode for car rides or quiet time. This final step turns abstract numbers into tangible, memorable experiences.
